True Love Waits Takes the Town
Despite progress in recent years, the United States still has the highest rate of teen pregnancies and births in the industrialized world-more than 900,000 teen pregnancies annually. True Love Waits Takes the Town will fight AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancies, as well as a number of emotional, social, psychological, and spiritual problems by helping young people change their attitudes and behavior related to sexual expression.
The goal of this project is to train True Love Waits leaders in 10 communities per year for a total of 50 communities in five years.
As these leaders implement the program, specific target goals are to reduce rates of teen pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases (AIDS), and sexual activity among teenagers by 5 percent over the next five years; obtain commitments from 15 percent of the youth population in each targeted community; and to connect 25 communities in the United States with 25 communities in Africa, making both cultures more committed to eliminating these youth-destroying scourges from their lands and their futures.
